Virginia Jett Riffee, widow of Murray Smith Riffee, Jr., passed away September 14th, 2018. She was born October 31st, 1932, daughter of the late Gertrude Jett. Virginia has two children, a son David Hammond and daughter Elizabeth Hammond, deceased and a brother, Billy L. Jett. She has two grandchildren, Alexandra Hyatt and Elizabeth Weiser. She has two step-grandchildren, Stephanie Frazier and Heather Birchfield. She has a daughter-in-law, Kay Hammond; a grandson-in-law, Matthew Hyatt; two great-grandchildren, Stephenie Bethards and Sydney Myers; two step great-grandchildren, Bailey Birchfield and Jordan Ilic. She has two step children, Mark Riffee and Christine Arcario. In addition to her mother, husband and daughter, Virginia was preceded in death by an uncle, James Jett and sister-in-law, Phyllis Jett.
Virginia was a member of Harmony Christian Church. She served as a Justice of the Peace for several years, was a paralegal and had a secretarial and real estate management career. Her beloved husband was a major home builder in the Georgetown area. Virginia loved to work, especially as a partner in her husband’s home building business. Both were active in The Home Builders Association and the local Georgetown Citizens Police Academy. She loved shopping in thrift stores. She loved her travels and her search and collection of iconic dolls representing the places they visited. Scrapbooking was a true passion.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 16th, from 2 to 5pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held on Monday at 11am, Pastor Dave Hammond presiding. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Georgetown Police Department, 550 Bourbon Street, Georgetown, Kentucky, 40324. The family would like to thank Virginia’s wonderful caretakers, Jean Geri, Brenda and Ann.
