O’Neal Weeks, 81, husband of Darla Rae Botkin, passed away Friday, May 11th, 2018 at his home. O’Neal was born March 22nd, 1937 in Blackville, South Carolina, son of the late Horace J. and Doris (Gibson) Weeks. O’Neal had served in the United States Navy Reserves and he was an ordained minister and a member of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He also was a member of The Lexington Prose Writing Group. He graduated from Furman University, Southeastern Theological Seminary at Wake Forest and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. O’Neal was Professor Emeritus at The University of Kentucky and had been part-time Professor at Eastern Kentucky University. He was Director of The Marriage and Family Therapy Program at U.K., Chair of the Department of Family Studies and interim- Dean of the College of Human Enviromental Sciences. O’Neal served as past-president of The Kentucky Marriage and Family Therapy Association, and volunteer counselor to students at The Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. He was co-founder of The Family Institute of Central Kentucky. O’Neal was talented at building and repairing golf clubs. In addition to his wife, O’Neal is survived by his daughter, Laura (Don) Sebastian; two sons, Mike Weeks (Marisol Villalobos) and Brian Weeks; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Ladrell) Vinegar, Julia Sebastian, Taylor Sebastian, Michael (Caitlin) Weeks, Christopher Weeks, Lucas Weeks and Brittany (Caleb) Chrisman; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Vinegar, Kashton Vinegar and Elijah Chrisman; his sister, Mavis Girgis; his brother, Elmer (Martha) Weeks; his sister-in-law, Gay (Mike) Younkin. Visitation will be Friday, May 18 at Faith Baptist Church from 10am until time of O’Neal’s Celebration of Life Service at 11am with Reverend Bob Fox and Reverend Greg Earwood officiating.
