Obituary for Shirden Ratliff

Shirden Ratliff, age 80, husband of Elizabeth Ann (Milby) Ratliff, entered into rest on February 2nd, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born November 3rd, 1936 in Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late Thomas and Lettie (Creason) Ratliff. Shirden was a retired insurance agent with Kentucky Central Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Kentucky and attended Assembly of God Church in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. He enjoyed the fellowship of his brothers and sisters, but health problems kept him from attending as much as would have liked to. In addition to his wife of forty nine years, Shirden is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Mark) Wallace and Renee (JR) Smith; two sons, Steve (Isabel) Ratliff and Brad (Terrilin) Walls; eight grandchildren, Sean Perry, Kelby Clem, Jennifer Hall, Jonathon Ratliff, Megan Humphrey, Jordan Walls, Katie Hughes and Cassandra Ratliff; one great-grandson, Hunter Hall; two sisters, Virginia Marshbanks and Mildred (Kenneth) Bowen; two brothers-in-law, Charles “Buck” Milby and Andy Stephen; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Always with a smile, a kind word, a joke or that little laugh of his, Shirden was a friend to all that knew him. Although he had numerous health problems, he was always upbeat and smiling, never complained about his problems, accepting them as God’s will and God had blessed him to stay here for eighty years-blessed are those who trust in the Lord for we know where our help comes from. Visitation will be Sunday, February 5th, from 5 to 8pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11am on Monday with Pastor Harry Hargis officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Walls, Steve Ratliff, Mark Wallace, J.R. Smith, Sean Perry, Michael Hall, Adam Humphrey and D.C. Clem. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John T. Hoffman, Clay McKnight and Rowan Covington. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 1317 U.S. Highway 62 East, Cynthiana, Kentucky 41031. Even though our hearts are broken and our home has an empty place, we know he is in a better place where he will never have to suffer or hurt again, where there is nothing but joy. We will always love and miss you, but we truly believe that our loss is Heavens gain. Rest in peace until we meet again.
