Winfred Lloyd Gaines, 91, passed away Sunday, May 29th, 2016 in his home. He was born June 26th, 1924 in Scott County, Kentucky, son of the late A.M. and Pansy (Smith) Gaines. Winfred was a farmer most of his life and had worked on several thoroughbred farms over the years. He was a member of Great Crossing Baptist Church. Winfred is survived by his loving wife of seventy years, Dorothy Nell (Stakelin) Gaines; his daughter, Ann (Rusty) Moss; his son, Ronnie Gaines; four grandchildren, Bryan Moss, Denise Sharp, Anthony Gaines and Nicholas Gaines; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Rosie Trent; two brothers, Allen Gaines and Tommy Gaines. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Shepherd, Eva Covington and Sue Trent. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31st from 5 to 8pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11am with Rev. Bill Fryman and Rev. Glenn Redmon officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Rusty Moss, Brandon Sharp, Anthony Gaines, Christopher Gaines, Nick Gaines, Doug Sharp, Joe Puckett and Scott Dews. Honorary pallbearers will be Denise Sharp, Danny Fryman, Marvin Young and Tony Gaines. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass for their loving and devoted care to Winfred and the entire Gaines family. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
