Billie Hall House, 92, completed her journey in this world on June 10, 2015. Billie was born on the plains of western Oklahoma in a sod house. Her family struggled during the depression but, through hard work and determination, Billie won a scholarship to attend college. She also earned extra money to complete her education by training and working as a journeyman electrician for a ship building company in Los Angeles during the war, along with thousands of other women known as “Rosie the Riveters,” who went to work in what had traditionally been male jobs. During this time, Billie met a young soldier from Kentucky, John R. Hall, who asked her to keep his hat while he was deployed to fight the war in Europe. After the war, John came back for both Billie and his hat and they married and settled down in his hometown of Stamping Ground, Kentucky. Billie fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher, eventually obtaining her Master’s Degree in Education from Georgetown College. She taught for over forty years and truly loved her career and all the children she taught. Billie and John became the parents of three children, Raymon L. Hall, who became a police officer, Janet M. Hall, who became an attorney, and Charles M. Hall, who became an engineer, all of whom survive her. Billie was very civic minded and, in addition to teaching, served on the Board that helped raise funds to build the first public park and pool in Georgetown. She also helped organize the first Head Start Program in Stamping Ground, successfully led a petition drive to obtain a grant to build a public sewer system in Stamping Ground, and served as a Girl Scout troop leader.
After retirement from teaching, Billie became a real estate broker and founded her own real estate company. Always a fashion icon, she also owned and operated the Expressions Fashion Boutique and the Merle Norman Studio in Georgetown.
Billie was predeceased by her husband, John R. Hall, and is survived by her second husband, Robert House, her three children, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was adored by her family for the love and support she gave to all of them, her positive outlook on life, and her fun loving nature.
Public Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12th at Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky, to be followed by a private family graveside service and burial. It is requested that any donations be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
