William Dean Murphy, 73, husband of Linda Hiten Murphy, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Born in Georgetown, KY, he was the son of the late J.L. and Mary Katherine "Kitty" Wells Murphy.
A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, he received his degree in Criminal Justice which lead to a career of service both locally and internationally. He began his career at Blackburn Correctional Facility and then went on to work for probation and parole in Lexington, Kentucky before joining the Scott County Sheriff's Department as a deputy. When the opportunity came to join the United States Secret Service, Bill took advantage and served for 23 years including three years for President Jimmy Carter. After his retirement, he was a Deputy US Marshal serving as a court security officer as well as a deputy with the Boone County Sheriff's office.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved time on the farm. He was a member of the Retired Secret Service Association and Rabbit Hash Sportsman's Association and was a dedicated family man. He loved time with his wife and high school sweetheart, Linda, wintering in Florida and cherished time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children, Tracy Ann (Jason) Bright, Union, KY and Bryan J. (Vanessa) Murphy, Williamstown, KY; brother, Gene (Debbie) Murphy, Stamping Ground; grandchildren, Christopher Bright, Matthew Bright, Faith Murphy, Elijah Murphy, Olivia Bright and Stella Murphy; great grandchildren, Taylor and Hailey Bright; and his uncle, Charlie (Becky) Murphy.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM till service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.
