Virginia Parsons Bingham, 88, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Born in Pike County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rebecca Thacker Parsons.

She is survived by a loving family of sisters, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of friends both old and new. She was preceded in death by a son, four brothers and a sister.

After beginning her career as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Pike County, Virginia spent 38 years as an English and History teacher with Russell Independent Schools and was proud to call herself an Educator. She was an avid reader, enjoyed discussing politics, was an excellent cook and grew beautiful flowers in her garden. She was a member of
the Advance Memorial Methodist Church in Flatwoods, KY.

As a teacher, mother, and friend, Virginia brought light into places of darkness. She offered encouragement and kindness to everyone she met. She grew up in Eastern Kentucky during the Great Depression, and although she became a strong and independent woman, the struggles of her early years fostered in her a keen sense of community and a generosity that were known to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Virginia would not allow those around her to do without when she could help, and help she did, always without thought of thanks or recognition. Today, the world is a little darker without her.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local
humane society.
