Obituary

May 27th, 1954 – January 31st, 2025 Robert "Bobby" Castañeda, 70 years of happiness, of San Antonio, Texas received his angel wings on January 31st, 2025 due to natural causes.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara J Reyes Castañeda of 44 wonderful years of marriage. Children: Brandon (Virginia) Reyes, Bobby Castañeda, Brian (Rebecca) Castañeda, and Amanda (Robert) Gutiérrez. Grandchildren: Rudy Robert, Ryan Eric, Royce Rey, Renay Royal, and Robby Rob Gutiérrez (Amanda). Madison, Carly Jo, Kylie, Brian Jr. Camila Castañeda (Brian). Sierra, Serena Castañeda (Bobby). Brooklyn, Grayson Reyes (Brandon). Siblings: Roland (Maria) Castañeda, Gloria (Raymond) Garza, and Gilbert (Gloria) Castañeda. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 27th of 1954 to parents' Armando Castañeda Sr. and Otilia (Tillie) Gomez Castañeda who were early on family business owners of multiple neighborhood convenience stores. "La Tiendita" was a grocery/burger store located in Palm Heights neighborhood, which quickly became a local favorite known for the BEST homemade burgers. Bobby attended Gardendale Elementary, Brentwood Junior High and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Edgewood Independent School District. After obtaining his high school diploma, which lead him to his first real job at Joseph Schlitz Brewing. Instead, realizing he had a passionate interest in law enforcement he obtained his Texas Peace Officer license and joined Bexar County Sheriff Department. During his active years at BCSO Bobby befriended many long-life friends that renamed him "Hopper" and "Sheriff". At BCSO, Bobby grew secure confidence to propose to the love of his life Barbara J. Reyes, daughter of Rudy F. and Gloria L. Reyes.

On September 29th, 1979 with many family members and friends in attendance a lovely memorable wedding celebration took place at, St. Paul Catholic Church, to tie the unity of their love.

Once Bobby adapted to marriage life, he began to anticipated that there was a need to establish his own family growth. Bobby and Barbara with much excitement took on the new parent role as their oldest son Robert D. Castañeda was born. Together as a team Bobby and Barbara were loving, supporting, compassionate, parents which led to their second son's birth, Brian Castañeda, and not long after the last birth of his beloved daughter Amanda C. Gutierrez completed the line of children. In conjunction with his daughter's birth, Bobby decided to change career paths, he desired a career less dangerous. City Public Server Energy is where he dedicated him to service for 30 years in the field, before retiring. Bobby was a great provider, supporter, and leader to his children. The father role was an accomplishment that Bobby held with great honor. He was forevermore proud and impressed with the many achievable outcomes his children endure. Bobby devoted all his time to his wife and family. Creating many life lasting great memories with his family at the Gulf Coast Beaches where he felt most at peace. Family Sunday backyard BBQs', Holiday gatherings and every reason to celebrate was the root of his happiness. His tough love, laughter, wittiness, charisma drew him close to everyone. His residential neighborhood family relied on Bobby for the reliable hot off the press "chisme". Bobby was announced official, certified grandpa "Bus Driver" for the five grandchildren of his daughter. He had the most unique and unreplaceable personality that allowed him to make all strangers friends. He enjoyed life to the fullness living the last years to complete richness in traveling with his wife and family to far and near destinations. With his high spirit and peaceful soul, he bought peace and happiness to many. We must not forget that he had a farfetched desire to become a lottery/jackpot HUGE winner. Lottery tickets was the reason he received the nickname "Scratch-off Bobby". He will be greatly remembered as a wonderful husband, a great dad, the best grandfather and an awesome friend. Bobby will forever be in our hearts and cherished memories. His legacy will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Reyes
