In loving memory of Natividad C. Mascorro

September 3, 1923 – June 12, 2025

With deep love and gratitude, our family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch, Natividad C. Mascorro, who went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2025, just shy of her 102nd birthday.

Born on September 3, 1923, Natividad lived a life full of strength, love, faith, and boundless devotion to her family. She was the cherished wife of the late Abel G. Mascorro (11/5/1924 – 6/13/2000), with whom she shared a long and beautiful life and legacy of love.

Natividad was the proud mother of seven children:

Joe C. Mascorro (b. 7/11/1963)

She was the treasured grandmother of 28 grandchildren, the great-grandmother of 87, and the great-great-grandmother of 59—each one a testament to the love she so generously poured into her family.

Though her body grew weary with time, her mind remained as sharp and vibrant as ever. Her spirit never dulled. Natividad was witty and quick with her comebacks, always ready with a story to tell or a bit of wisdom to share with anyone who'd listen. She was a character in the truest, most beautiful sense—humorous, strong-willed, faith-filled, and full of love.

She walked independently every single day of her life, never once relying on a wheelchair—a true testament to her strength and resilience. But even more than her physical strength, it was her spiritual life that left the greatest mark. A fierce prayer warrior, she would often wake in the quiet hours of the night to sing worship songs and call each of her family members by name in prayer. Her love was deep, personal, and unwavering.

Natividad was the last of her generation and the final bearer of the Castillo family name from her father's line. She is also believed to be the oldest and last surviving founding resident of the Loma Terrace community on the west side of San Antonio. She and her husband Abel were among the very first families to settle in the undeveloped neighborhood in the early 1940s, helping to lay the foundation—literally and spiritually—for a vibrant and lasting community. In the early 1970s, the Mascorro family opened a beloved neighborhood grocery store, La Villa Princesa, affectionately known as "La Tiendita." It quickly became a local landmark—not just for its convenience but for the old-fashioned, homemade hamburgers that Natividad made with love and care. Her food brought people together, and her presence behind the counter made every customer feel like family.

In the early 1980s, their faith and commitment to serving others led them to help erect a church in their neighborhood, Templo La Tierra Prometida (The Promised Land Temple), which continues to serve as a place of worship and refuge for many to this day. Their legacy lives on in the faith community they helped build and in the many lives they touched.

Natividad's legacy is one of enduring faith, devoted motherhood, and joyful perseverance. Her love shaped generations. Her prayers covered us. Her stories and spirit will echo in our hearts forever.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A visitation will be held at Ortiz Mortuary, Inc. Chapel A on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume the following morning on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM. The funeral procession will depart at 9:15 AM for a church service at Templo La Tierra Prometida Church, located at 151 Alicia Ave, San Antonio, TX 78228. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park.
