Melinda Wheeler Veirs, 76, passed away Friday, May 8, 2026. Melinda was born September 1, 1949 in Paris, Kentucky to the late George Wheeler and Lois Evelyn Stephens Wheeler.

Melinda earned her bachelor's in physical education from Eastern Kentucky University, a Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D in psychology from the University of Kentucky. A vocational counselor at the Veteran's Administration, Melinda was passionate about birds, nature, and flowers, especially orchids. She enjoyed Kentucky history and would go out with her late husband Michael "Mike" Veirs of 35 years to cemeteries and libraries to learn more.

Melinda Veirs lived with a special zest for life and a deep appreciation for family, friends, and history. She found joy in simple pleasures: warm sunshine, a good book, and time spent with the people she loved most.

She will be remembered for her warmth, her love of storytelling and history, her bright spirit, and the way she made those around her feel deeply loved. Her memory will live on in the family she treasured and in the many lives touched by her kindness and presence.

Given any opportunity, Melinda was quick to boast about the accomplishments of her children, Jennifer and Jason and his wife, Danielle. She was a deeply proud mother and an adoring grandmother whose love extended generously to Mina, Jonah, MyaAlice, Heidi, Ted, and Madielyn. Her family was the center of her world, and she carried each of them proudly in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her favorite person and beloved husband, Mike; her cherished granddaughter, MyaAlice; and her brothers, Stevie and Skeeter. Though their absence weighed heavily on her heart, her love for them remained constant and enduring.

Funeral services will be 6 PM Monday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 4 PM till service time. Burial will be 10 AM Tuesday at Winchester Cemetery.
