Mary Catherine Turbek, 64, wife of John Stephen Turbek, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 4th, 2024 in her home surrounded by family. Born in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Allan "Fred" Golding and Helen T Golding.

Before moving to her beloved country home in Kentucky, Mary worked as a personal trainer and fitness instructor in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her area of specialty was helping clients afflicted with health challenges to gain the strength they needed to become the best version of themselves. As someone who loved fitness and the outdoors, and grew up sharing that love with her brother with a disability, Charlie, she wanted to bring that happiness to people from all walks of life.

Mary had a burning passion for cycling, especially on the winding country roads of Kentucky, overlooking the vast fields of green and sprawling horse farms. She also loved spending time in both her vegetable and flower gardens, sprinkling her love into everything she touched. She particularly enjoyed working in her rose garden, which she grew in honor of her late father. Mary found immense joy in relaxing in her loft while playing her many favorite classical pieces on her cherished Baby Grand piano. During her time in Utah, Mary delighted in hiking the many trails of the majestic Wasatch mountains, forever in awe of nature's powerful presence. No matter how she felt or what the day held, Mary found time to be outside in nature and always ended the day with saying "Today was a good day".

More than anything else in life, Mary loved spending time with her treasured family. She and her husband John shared many adventures in their cozy van all over the country, particularly in the mystical Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. She loved visiting her two daughters, Erin and Colleen, and their husbands Andrew and Hayden, in Utah, where together they would ride bikes, hike, play frisbee golf, and sit under their adored gazebo regaling stories while indulging in a cold beer. One of the greatest joys of her life was being a grandmother to her son, Ryan, and daugher-in-law, Becca's children Don "Donny" and Declan "Deckles". Her favorite activities with her "littles" were reading them stories and taking walks with them, where she could watch them explore and learn about the great outdoors she so revered. And although divorced from her first husband Mark, they maintained a wonderful friendship throughout her life, and enjoyed sharing in their children's and grandchildren's lives together.

In addition to her husband John, she is survived by her children, Ryan O'Connor and his wife Rebecca "Becca", Erin O'Connor and her husband Andrew, Colleen O'Connor and her husband Hayden; her beloved grandchildren Don "Donnie" and Declan "Deckles"; brothers Allan "Fred" Golding Jr., John (Sarah) Golding and Charles Golding; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A gathering of friends and family will begin on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 at Keeneland Race Course. Friends are encouraged to tailgate with the family starting at 1 PM and even catch a few races. An additional gathering of friends and family will be held at 5 PM that same Wednesday evening at Spark Community Cafe, 175 N. Main St. in Versailles with a celebration of Mary's life commencing at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation (OMF) www.ocularmelanoma.org.
