Mary Givens Hayden, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Born in Georgetown, KY, she was the daughter of the late Bettie Mae and William L. Black, Sr and Robert Givens.
Mary retired after many years with Clark Material then served as a GED instructor in Scott County. A member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, she was active with the United Methodist Women and singing in the choir. She was an avid reader, loved to travel and completing puzzles.
She is survived by her grandson, Travis Vincent Warren Campbell (Casey Palmer); sisters, Patricia Ann Black, Diane Black, Pamela Black-Davis (Anthony) and Marlene Black Johnson; sister-in-law, Dianna Black; brother-in-law, Posey Cabell; nieces and nephews, Monica Cabell, Karen McNary (Keith), Antimony Bishop, Bryan Black (Katie), Miakesha Sidney and Maya Johnson; as well as a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Edna La-Verne Jones; sister, Bobbye Cabell; brother, William L. Black, Jr; and her long-time companion, Ira J. Franklin.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday at Georgetown First United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Robert Raglin and Rev. Rhoda Raglin. Burial will follow at the Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jermal Christopher, Darnell Christopher, Andre Higgins, Tony Lewis, St. Clair Wilson, Jr and Rocky Hawkins. Honorary bearers will be Ronnie Sidney, Harry James Wilson, Stanley Williams, Tony Wilson and Cecil Sharp. Visitation will be 11 AM till service time Thursday at the church.
