Louis Gene Mancene, 99, passed away on April 24, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Born November 15, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the eldest child of Thomas and Annette Mancene.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his sister, Dorothy, his children, Robert and Diane, his stepdaughters, Whitney and Shelley, and his grandchildren, Isabella, Thomas, Jeweliann, Dallas and Cameron. He was predeceased by his sister, Loraine Levin.

After graduating from Borough Hall Academy in Brooklyn, New York, Gene enrolled at Long Island University, where in 1949 he graduated with honors with a Physics degree. In 1950 he began studying law at Brooklyn Law School. In addition to his studies, Gene was a teacher of Mathematics and Physics, and chairman of the Science department at Borough Hall Academy.
His law school studies were interrupted in 1951 when he enlisted in the United States Army. In 1955, after being honorably discharged from the Army, Gene completed his law degree at Brooklyn Law School.

In 1955, Gene accepted a position as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trade Office in Washington, D.C. During the evenings, Gene taught trigonometry at George Washington University.

Gene would spend the next 51 years predominantly as a Supervisory Primary Examiner working at the Patent Office. During his time there, he received numerous awards and honors. Among those honors was the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal for his significant contributions to the Patent and Trademark Office. Gene was selected five times to be a Principal Instructor for newly hired employees participating in the Patent Examiner Initial Training Program.

Those who knew Gene will remember him for his infectious charm and warm personality. He was a distinguished and beloved teacher and supervisor. He was the champion of the underdog who excelled in bringing out the best in people. Gene had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgetown, KY. Burial will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM till service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
