John William Wright, 66, husband of Stacey Young Wright, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026. Born in Georgetown, KY, he was the son of the late Frank and Viola Wilson Wright.
The former Director of Recycling for the City of Georgetown, John enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and was an avid NASCAR fan. John fought a courageous battle with Primary Lateral Sclerosis with strength and resilience. If you knew John, you knew he was strong-willed and unapologetically set in his ways — and we wouldn't have had him any other way. His greatest joy in life was being "Papaw" to his grandchildren, and he shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Bella, and cat, LT, who were his constant companions and best friends.
In addition to his wife of 29 years, he is survived by his children, Taylor (Tyler) Cramp and Brock David Young; sister, Phyllis (Wayne) Bussell; grandchildren, Stephen Carroll Young, IV, Gabbriella Rae Young, Gracelynne Carroll Young, Aubbreyana Denise Sharp, Tilden Elias Cramp, and Taytum Renae Cramp; great-grandson, Ryker Wayne Wilson; and many dear friends and extended family who were a constant part of his life, including lifelong friends who were like brothers to him and stood by his side through the years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen "Stevie" Carroll Young, and siblings, Robert D. Wright, Hattie Belle Hensley, and Walter T. Wright.
A memorial service will be held on February 28th, 2026 at 1:00PM at Wayman Chapel Church.
321 Chambers Ave, Georgetown, KY 40324
Those who knew John will carry his strength, kindness, and unwavering love with them always.
