Jeannine E. Nelson passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, at the age of 78.
Jeannine was born in Jackson Heights, New York, to John and Jean Hughes. She was raised on Long Island, New York, alongside her brothers and sister. She later attended college in New York City and went on to work on Wall Street for many years.
While living in New York, Jeannine met Edward Nelson. They were married on March 21, 1971. When Ed was drafted and stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, they relocated there in 1972. They remained in Kentucky until 1978, when they moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. They made Windsor their home for many years before eventually returning to Kentucky following Ed's retirement.
Jeannine had many interests throughout her life, including karate, in which she earned a brown belt. She also maintained many close and lasting friendships throughout the years.
Above all else, Jeannine loved her family. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Beloved wife of the late Edward Nelson. Loving mother of Edward Nelson (Corey), Jennifer Aversa (Domenico), and Scott Nelson (Jennifer). Dearest grandmother of Fraser, Madelyn, Elizabeth, Victoria, Kylie, Scott Jr., Connor and Devany. Cherished sister of James Hughes (Karen), Kathryn Hughes Smith (Randy), William Hughes, the late John Hughes and Paul Hughes. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 12PM until the Funeral Service at 7:30PM, at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Price Chapel), 3725 Rochester Road, Troy 48083.
Graveside services will be 2:30PM Monday, August 24, 2026 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Road, Nicholasville, KY 40356. Those attending are encouraged to meet at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgetown, KY at 12:30 PM.
