Dr. James "Jim" Franklin Land, 73, of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away on April 12, 2026.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 14, 1952, Jim spent much of his childhood playing sports and keeping the neighbors on their toes with his pranks. He later spent two years in Japan, where he climbed Mount Fuji, before returning to Lexington to graduate from Henry Clay High School. He went on to attend Morehead State University, where he earned a degree in mathematics and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, and later received his dental degree from the University of Louisville.

Jim built a dental practice in Georgetown, where he served his community with compassion, integrity, and deep dedication for many years.

An avid golfer, Jim passed away one hour before the first tee time on Masters Sunday – a detail those who knew and loved him may find especially fitting. He also had a deep love for thoroughbred horse racing and enjoyed following the sport throughout his life. A lover of music as well, he taught himself to play guitar at a young age, especially enjoying "Stairway to Heaven."

Jim was a gifted storyteller with an unforgettable sense of humor. He was quick-witted, funny, and full of life, and the stories and laughter he shared will stay with his family and friends forever. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose presence made life brighter for those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lyn Land (Ethington); his children, Michael Land (Autumn Land), Emily Colson (Eric Colson), and Taylor Land (Hannah Land); his grandchildren, Landon Colson, Jax Colson, and Sawyer Land; and his sister, Glenda Cooper (Don Cooper).

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Team Gleason Foundation in support of individuals and families affected by ALS.
