It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Rollan Virse Jr., who left us on August 2, 2025. Jim was 71 years old.

Jim was born in Williamson, WV, on September 4, 1953, to the late Ruby Virse and James "Buffy" Rollan Virse. He was married to Sandra Jean Virse, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this December, a true milestone of enduring love and partnership. Together, they had two children: Wendy Nicole Holbrook (Bill Holbrook) and Matthew James Virse (Kari Virse), both of Stamping Ground, KY. Jim's greatest joy, however, came from his four amazing grandchildren: Ashtyn Christine Holbrook, Sutton Matthew Holbrook, Ryann Elizabeth Virse, and Larkyn Nicole Virse. He was always ready with a joke or prank and took immense pride in all their accomplishments.

Jim is also survived by a devoted extended family who have always been a part of his story. Bobbi Leigh Blackburn (Sister-in-Law), Ireland Smith (Brother-in-Law), Keith Blackburn (Brother-in-Law), Melody Blackburn (Sister-in-Law), and his special niece, Robyn Murphy, to whom he was always "Jimmy". Jim is also survived by close friends who often helped him get through the hard days of his illnesses. He is preceded in death by his loving sister, Sharon Kay Smith, and his young niece Jennifer Kay Smith, whom he adored.

A proud Eastern Kentuckian, Jim was a coal miner before transitioning to Toyota in Georgetown, where he spent the majority of his working life. In his younger years, Jim was an avid Harley-Davidson rider, sharing adventures with his club friends. He later became interested in Corvettes and bringing old vehicles back to life. Known for his knack for "tinkering," he possessed a remarkable ability to fix and build almost anything. He enjoyed just being in his shop surrounded by his tools, even when he could not "tinker" much anymore. Jim also loved the three family dogs that ran the farm. They will certainly miss his evening treats.

Jim was a man who found his greatest happiness in simple things. The love and company of his family were all he needed. He will be missed dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Toys for Tots. This was an organization dear to Jim's heart and became a tradition for him and Sandie each year. A private memorial service will be held.
