James William Emmons, 76, husband of Marguerite Atteberry Emmons, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Born in Scott County, KY, he was the son of the late Robert "Bob" and Christine Parker Emmons.

A 1966 graduate of Scott County High School, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps before he graduated and leaving for basic training in July of 1966. He served 4 years active duty and 13 years in the Marine Corps Reserves. James returned to Scott County in 1970 where he met the love of his life, Marguerite. He obtained his degree from Lexington Technical College and spent 40 years with GTE/Verizon before retiring from service with the company. He was a proud United States Marine and Vietnam Veteran. He retired from the Corp as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO3) from the Marine Corp Reserves. James received several decorations and citations for his service including the Navy & Marine Corp Achievement, with Combat V; Combat Action Ribbon; Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation; Marine Corp Good Conduct; National Defense Service Ribbon; Vietnam Service Ribbon with Stars; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm; RVN Civic Action Honor Unit Citation with Palm; Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.

He enjoyed working with his hands and staying active with woodworking, farming, and being outside even if just mowing. He was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel and supporter of the VFW. He loved a good practical joke and cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren and taking care of his wife.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children, Helen Kathryn Emmons and Stephen Christopher Emmons; sister, Jo Ann (Jimmy McFarland) Doyle; grandchildren, Wil Kelly, John Kelly and Abby Kelly; brothers-in-law, Foster (Judy) Atteberry and Bruce (Grace) Atteberry; and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Sonny" Emmons and sister, Helen Jean Stewart.

Services will be private and at a later date.
