Hershel Ray Flannery, 82, husband of Sylvia Ann Dowland Flannery, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2026. Born in Martin, KY, he was the son of the late William T. Flannery and Gracie Smith Engle.

A former body man with a body shop, Hershel enjoyed fishing, golf and camping. A former member of the Peacemakers Motorcycle Club, he was a Navy veteran serving missions early in Vietnam.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his children, Kathy Jean Flannery and Kenneth Ray (Linda) Flannery; siblings, Linda Engle, Rita (Rick) Richie and William Engle; grandchildren, Kendra Leigh Arkenau, Trey Brackett, Julie Lyons, Michael Marshall and Matthew Marshall; niece, Shannon Rae Richie; nephew, Kevin "Butch" Cornett.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Thursday at Johnson's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM till service time on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society.
