Dr. Gordon Page Guthrie Jr., of Georgetown, Kentucky, passed away on May 28, 2024, in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 79. He was a beloved father to Gordon III and Joseph, cherished father-in-law to Elizabeth and Solvej, and adored grandfather to Leighton and Marion. Dr. Guthrie is survived by his two younger sisters, Susan and Ellen, and his beloved border terrier, Ozzie. He was preceded in death by Laura, his wife of nearly 40 years, as well as his parents, Elizabeth and Gordon Sr.

Dr. Guthrie was born on September 1, 1944, in New York City, New York. He excelled in his education, attending Yale University as an undergraduate and Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he obtained his medical degree. After completing his residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, he went on to complete a fellowship at the McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Quebec. Afterwards, Dr. Guthrie joined the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where he became Chief of Endocrinology. After retiring from UK, he continued his practice at Baptist Health Lexington. In the medical world, he is known for his research in diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, and for authoring the medical textbook Hypertension and the Brain.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Guthrie was known for his quiet demeanor, kindness, and sharp wit. He was an excellent golfer, accomplished pilot, skier, and enjoyed spending his time tending to his farm and garden, traveling, and attending weekly dinners with friends and family. He will be remembered for his intelligence and thoughtfulness in all aspects of his life.

A memorial service will be 3 PM Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity, conducted by The Rev. Karen W. Booth. Contributions in his memory can be made to Doctors Without Borders and North American Border Terrier Welfare, Inc. Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky, is assisting with the funeral arrangements.
