Mrs. Freda Sears departed this life on Wednesday night, February 12, 2025 in Georgetown, Ky at the Dover Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 93 years old. She was born on June 21, 1931 in Georgetown, Kentucky to the late Carrie Wilkins and Edward Alexander. She was the widower of Thomas Sears, Jr.
Mrs. Freda professed her faith in Jesus Christ at a very young age. She attended Wayman AME Church and the former Chambers Avenue Christian Church. She later moved her membership to Community Christian Church in Mt. Sterling, Ky where she regularly attended until her sickness. She retired from domestic work where she spent years at Georgetown College in the Cafeteria and later worked for fourteen years as a Senior Companion. Mrs. Freda attended Ed Davis High School. She enjoyed fishing, working word puzzles, reading her Bible, talking on the phone and spending time with her friends at the Scott County Senior Citizen Center.
To mourn her memory, she leaves a nephew: Gilbert (Joyce) Coates of Warsaw, Missouri; two adopted sons: Kenneth Wayne and Roger Goins of Butler, Kentucky; a special cousin, Karen Winters; her caregivers: Robbi Barber, Mary Frances McIntyre, Margaret and Allie Daniels, Joyce Nichols, Delores Vinegar, Katherine Wilson, and Gail Figgs; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Winifred Loins and Lyvonia Keller; and her dog, Sugar, who she cared for as a child.
Funeral services will be 12:30 PM Thursday at Johnson's Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Jerry W. Jones, Sr and Rev. Zachary Barber. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM.
