Darlene Hinamon Paugstat, 90, wife of John F. Paugstat, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025. Born in Portland, OR, she was the daughter of the late Paul Noland and Linda Friesen Hinamon.
A hardworking farm wife, she enjoyed being a homemaker; summer gardening and canning (to the tune of 800 quarts per summer). She was an avid seamstress, sewing family clothes, quilts, home decor, and gifts. She enjoyed traveling and adventurous vacations (canoeing, skiing, backpacking, bicycling trips, and hiking trips) and was known for her dominance as a mini-golf champion. She impressed many when she got hooked on motorcycle riding at 74 years old.
Darlene lived her faith with integrity, playing the piano and organ for church for decades. Most recently she was a member of Connersville Christian Church. She shared tangible expressions of love toward family and friends, including tireless service, a listening ear and homegrown elaborate meals. She was a source of comfort and promoter of peace and harmony. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she cherished quality time with family, hosting countless homespun events and enjoyed playing games, especially Scrabble, Qwirkle, and Bingo, with any who dared!
In addition to her beloved husband of 68 years, she is survived by her cherished daughters, Paula K (Jim) Magnus, Carol A (Scot) Musser and Greta J (Ray) Nichols; sister, Marilyn (Allen) Harms; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Julia Paugstat and Christine Paugstat; and many honorary family members. She was preceded in death by her sons, John J. Paugstat and Benjamin Paugstat.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday at Johnson's Funeral Home, conducted by Scot Musser. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM till service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CSS Global Inc., "Darlene Paugstat Memorial", 501 Quail Run, Lexington KY, 40517.
