Christopher Michael Mekus passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2020. The joy he brought, the laughter he shared, and the love he nurtured among family and friends are the gifts he shall always be remembered for.

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture and Planning, Chris went on to build a successful career as an architect in Chicago, ultimately founding his own architecture and design firm, Mekus Tanager, Inc.

In his professional career, Chris was regarded as an innovator and visionary, winning architectural awards for projects throughout the U. S.

In his personal life, Chris was a devoted father and husband who shared his passion for sailing with anyone willing to learn how to tie a bowline. The perpetual glint in his eye and the wry smile on his face were his trademark. To know Chris was to know how to belly laugh.

Born in Glen Ridge, NJ, he was the son of the late Francis Henry and Irene DelVecchio Mekus. In addition to his wife of 48 years (Spes Mullen Mekus), he is survived by his children, Patrick Francis (Katie Jo Ann) Mekus, Menominee, MI and Dr. Cara Jeanne (Matthew) Hill, DVM, Richmond, KY: sister, Lynne Ann (Dr. William Gates, III) Gates, Lexington; brother, Mark Timothy (Lori Anita) Mekus, Richmond; and grandson, Maxwell Alexander Hill.

Due to current government restrictions, services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
