Carter Stanley Peterson, 29, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on August 12, 2026, as the result of an automobile accident. Born on January 18, 1997, in Winchester, Virginia, Carter was a bright, kind, and gentle soul who left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

From a very early age, Carter had an independent streak that defined who he was. He always wanted to do everything for himself, approaching the world with quiet determination and a curiosity that never faded. That drive carried him through his education and into a career built on his sharp, analytical mind. He graduated from Scott County HS in 2015, then attended the University of Kentucky on a full scholarship. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Statistics in 2019 and went on to complete a Master of Arts in Statistics from Ohio State University in 2020. He put his talents to work as an analyst for KCTCS in Versailles, Kentucky, where his intelligence and dedication made him a valued member of his team.

Outside of work, Carter was a man of deep and varied passions. He was an avid gamer who loved video games, board games, and role-playing games, and the friendships he built around those shared interests meant the world to him. He had a special love for animals, opening his home to two cats and two snakes, all of whom received his devoted care. And if you ever spent time with Carter, chances are good you heard The Beach Boys playing in the background. Their music was a constant soundtrack to his life.

What people will remember most about Carter, though, is simply who he was. He was kind. He was gentle. He was brilliant. He was the sort of person who made the people around him feel welcomed and valued, and he was loved by everyone who knew him. His loss at such a young age is felt deeply by all who had the privilege of being part of his world.

Carter is survived by his father, Luther Peterson Jr., his mother, Mari Peterson, and his older brother, Luther Peterson III, and soon-to-be-betrothed Scarlett Brotherton, who will carry his memory with them always.
