Obituary

  • Bertha M. Castillo, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Helotes, Texas. She was 95 years old.

Bertha was born on February 28, 1931, in San Antonio to Jose and Alvina Maldonado. She grew up in a loving family of five brothers and two sisters. A devoted follower of Christ, Bertha's unwavering faith was the foundation of her life and her family.

Bertha was married to Daniel P. Castillo for 68 wonderful years. Together, they raised nine children: Marta (Edward) Morales, Daniel Castillo Jr., Richard (Sylvia) Castillo, Diana (Amador) Rodriguez, Xavier (Sharlyn) Castillo, Steven Castillo, Mary Lou (Cesar) Garza, Debbie (Rudy) Rivas, and Lionel (Lesley) Castillo.

Her legacy of love extends to 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Elsie Sanchez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Alvina Maldonado; her five brothers and two sisters; her husband, Daniel P. Castillo; her son, Steven Castillo; her grandson, Jason Castillo; and her daughter-in-law, Linda Castillo.

Mom will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and eternally cherished for her strength, her love, and her kindness. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loved ones and resting in eternal peace.

"Her children rise up and call her blessed."
